The brief is the product: getting usable UGC on the first take
Most bad creator videos were bad briefs. A structure that gets the video you wanted without scripting the life out of it.

When a creator video comes back unusable, the instinct is to blame the creator. Look closer and the culprit is almost always the brief: either a two-line DM that left everything open, or a shot-by-shot script that produced a hostage video. The skill is in between, and it is learnable.
Fix the outcome, free the delivery
The rule that fixes most briefs: specify exactly what the video must accomplish, and stay flexible about how the creator gets there. The hook, the angle, the mandatory beats and the call to action are yours. The wording, setting and personality are theirs. You hired this person because they are believable on camera; a script written in your brand voice deletes the only thing you were paying for.
- One video, one angle. “Mention the price, durability and how it helped your skin” is three videos. A brief with one job produces a video with one clear message.
- Write the hook as a job description. Not the line itself, but what it must do: “in the first three seconds, make a skeptical scroller wonder whether their current moisturizer is the problem.” Offer two examples, invite a third.
- List the five mandatory beats. Product on camera by second five, the problem named before the solution, one concrete demonstration, the offer, the CTA. Beats, not lines.
- Show one reference video. A single “this energy” example transfers more than a page of adjectives. Two references confuse; five contradict.
- State the boring constraints. Vertical 9:16, under 45 seconds, no music (added in edit), good daylight, claims they are allowed to make and the two they legally cannot. Every reshoot ever ordered traces back to a constraint someone assumed was obvious.
The 24-hour test
A good brief is one page. Below that you are gambling, above it you are directing. One page of outcomes, beats and constraints gets you the thing every UGC program wants and few achieve: a first take you can actually run.
